Firefox released benchmarks to show off the up and coming Firefox 3.1 - It will be faster than Chrome. But that is according to their own benchmark tools. Chrome runs on V8, an open source Javascript engine which we can pretty much agree that it is the fastest engine to date. But the new release of Firefox 3.1(by end of year) Mozilla says that their new engine will beat Chrome's V8. Mozilla Firefox will use TraceMonkey, a newer engine.

So Mozilla ran Firefox on TraceMonkey and compared it to Chrome beta with a benchmarking tool called SunSpider (made by Mozilla). And the results are in, Chrome ended up being 28 percent slower on Win XP and 16 percent slower on Vista. It would be interesting to see Chrome benchmarked with SunSpider.

Chrome is still buggy for me so I am looking forward to this Firefox 3.1. I hope they fix the startup time of Firefox though. Chrome really performs there.

Well I've been testing Firefox 3.1 Alpha 2 with Basecamp since it's a pretty Java heavy site and I don't feel any speed difference yet maybe they haven't integrated there faster Java engine yet. Google chrome is still beating it hands down. But we shall see what the final release has to offer. Anyone know when it's going to come out?

Apparently java is not completely compatible with Chrome yet. We need to wait for an update. I have a buddy with basecamp too, he can check it out.

I tried Chrome on my XP box and the Javascript does run considerably faster than what I am used to in FF.

I think the response time of Chrome is much better than that of Firefox because i have seen whenever i open my gmail it takes a little more time to open it in firefox than in google chrome and moroever as mentioned the startup time too of chrome is very less as compared to firefox

It seems that Firefox is trying to win back some browser users it has lost. I noted that Chrome is faster as the link that I clicked in a webpage is opening faster in another tab. Try doing that with Firefox and one would notice a certain time delay.

I Tried Fire fox 3.1 . and chrome still beats it by far. firefox is sure more stable or to say complete with the plugins and every thing .. but chrome is simple and fast and very lite compared to the big rich firefox.

in my system, chrome works a lot faster than firefox3.1.....
