Top Firefox plugins that we need in Google Chrome

Postby Admin on 11 September 2008

Here is a list of the top Firefox plugins or add-ons that we need in Chrome. Now that we have Greasmonkey (greasemetal for Chrome) support, we just need these!

Mouse Gestures
Allows you to execute common commands (like page forward/backward, close tab, new tab) by mouse gestures drawn over the current webpage. This would be nice considering how fast Chrome is.

Flashblock
Blocks Flash so it won't get in your way, but if you want to see it, just click on a placeholder to load it. This keeps Chrome as fast as possible.

Firebug
Web development tools while you browse. You can edit, debug, and monitor CSS, HTML, and JavaScript live in any web page. This plugin makes Firefox.

PDF Download
View PDFs directly in Firefox as HTML, and save and share Web pages as high-quality PDF files. Anything to keep away from Acrobat.

Bookmarks manager
The Chrome bookmarks just need to get more serious. There are plenty of Firefox plugins that work beautifully.

Bookmarks sync
Gmarks anyone?

NoScript
Allow active content to run only from sites you trust, and protect yourself against XSS attacks.

Dictionary Plugin

StumbleUpon
StumbleUpon, submit sites

Delicious
Delicious bookmarks

Adblock
Is Google really going to let this happen? Its open source so I guess yes!

Seo Quake
Powerful site rank and index analysis.

Roboform
Memorizes your passwords and Logs You In automatically. Password Manager and Web Form Filler. A must.

Download them all
Lets you download all the links or images contained in a webpage.

Alright so I am sure I missed a few that you use. Lets hear your wish list.

My top 3 would definitely be:

1) Firebug
2) Flashblock
3) Bookmarks sync

You completely missed Web Developer Tools though. That thing rocks in Firefox if you do any dev work.

Also, I dunno if Google can get people to write plugins for them for free the same way Mozilla can. Its different cause they're making billions of dollars from Adsense and they just don't have the same developer community that Firefox has. But who knows, maybe Google can throw some cash out there for anyone who ports these plugins over to Chrome. That would be pretty sweet.

As long as the userbase of Chrome grows, people will make plugins - especially after they release their so called Plugins API. But you are right, Firefox has a huge community. What they need is something that will make Firefox plugins work directly or with little effort in Chrome so they don't have to be completely rewritten.

I guess Google could shell out some cash with their Google summer of code program. That program sponsors plenty of new and experienced developers around the world on various projects that they pitch to Google. They could create a new "Chrome category" for the summer of code program and see tons of people signing up - especially computer science students. This could create some interesting projects and plugins :)

For a Firebug wanna be app right click and use Inspector but ya its very crude and sends my CPU screaming. Needs a fix in the next update.

Ya I can see that Gmail plugin being ported over to Chrome since most Chrome users probably have gmail accounts and vice versa. Do you know if that script works with Google Apps email?

Firebug is absolutely essential! I know a lot of people that just will not switch until this is available on Chrome.

Add ons Plug ins or whatever, most people use the net to research and to me the most useful was "tab mix plus" and "web search pro"

Some sort of add on where all you do is highlight a term and either drag it to a search or a search box pops up and gives you a choice of "dictionary" "search with google" "thesaurus" you get the idea....
